Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed grief over the death of Shillong Lok Sabha MP Ricky AJ Syngkon, saying he would be remembered for his committed service to the people of Meghalaya.
The 54-year-old parliamentarian, who represented the Voice of the People Party (VPP), passed away on Thursday after collapsing while playing futsal in Shillong.
In a post on X, Modi said he was saddened by Syngkon’s passing and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family. “He will be remembered for his dedicated service to the people of Meghalaya. My thoughts are with his family, friends and supporters during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace,” the Prime Minister wrote.

He was known for his active public engagements and grassroots outreach across the Khasi-Jayantia Hills.
Syngkon represented the Shillong Lok Sabha seat as an MP from the Voice of The People Party. He had defeated 3-time MP Vincent Pala of the Congress by a massive margin of over 3 lakh votes in 2024.
