Resubelpara: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday highlighted the state government’s extensive investment in infrastructure, announcing that over Rs. 5,000 crore has been spent on road and bridge development in the last seven years.
Speaking at a public gathering in Resubelpara, North Garo Hills, Sangma said that the push for improved road connectivity is a cornerstone of the state’s broader developmental agenda, which also focuses on empowering women and supporting youth-led initiatives.
“Connectivity is the backbone of economic growth,” the chief minister said.
“In the last seven years, we have sanctioned and executed road and bridge projects worth more than Rs. 5,000 crore. These projects are not just about roads—they connect rural lives to markets, education, and healthcare.”
Among the notable infrastructure undertakings are roads linking Chidaret to Thapa Bazar and Bajengdoba to Resubelpara—projects Sangma said have significantly boosted the movement of goods and people, benefiting farmers and small traders in the region.

Comparing the current administration’s progress to previous governments, Sangma claimed that the achievements of the past seven years surpass the infrastructure development witnessed in the previous two decades.
“What could not be accomplished in 20 years, we have worked to deliver in just seven,” he asserted.
He also pointed to the broader impact of the government’s developmental focus, noting that rural producers in Meghalaya are now exporting organic fruits, fertilisers, and seeds to international markets, including Dubai—a testament to the success of grassroots investment and entrepreneurship.
