Shillong: Oil India Limited (OIL) has stepped in to support the construction of 47 toilet facilities for girl students across schools in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district, aiming to improve hygiene and sanitation in educational institutions.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formalising the initiative was signed on Friday between OIL representatives and Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal.
The project, estimated at around Rs 72 lakh, will be funded under the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

Baranwal said the project was conceptualised following Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri’s visit to Ri-Bhoi earlier this year, when concerns were raised about the lack of proper toilet facilities for girl students in several schools.
He added that both OIL and the district administration will jointly monitor the construction work to ensure quality standards and timely completion by December.
The monitoring process will also ensure that the CSR funds are effectively utilised and that the facilities remain sustainable in the long run.
