SHILLONG: As NEET 2024 candidates in Meghalaya await NTA’s response to their re-examination request, the agency has acknowledged allegations of mark inflation and exam discrepancies.

The NTA has revealed that the Ministry of Education has established a four-member panel to scrutinise the grace marks awarded to over 1,500 candidates.

Speaking at a press meet in New Delhi, NTA Director General Subodh Kumar Singh announced the formation of the committee, headed by a former UPSC chairman, which is tasked with submitting recommendations within a week.

When questioned about the possibility of a re-conducted exam for certain students, Singh highlighted that decisions would be contingent upon the committee’s recommendations.

Singh categorically denied allegations of paper leaks and irregularities, reiterating the integrity of the NEET exam.

Previously, discrepancies surfaced during NEET exams in West Jaintia Hills’ Jowai and Ri Bhoi’s Nongpoh, where candidates reportedly received incorrect question papers.

Despite assurances from Chief Minister Sangma regarding the escalation of concerns to the central agency, stakeholders impacted by the issue await a formal response from the NTA.

Addressing the matter on social media, Chief Minister Sangma had highlighted that NEET being conducted by a national agency necessitated forwarding reports of discrepancies across various parts of the state for review.

Meanwhile, pressure groups and student unions in Meghalaya have been demanding a re-examination amid growing discontent over the irregularities.

The NTA’s reluctance to consider a re-examination in light of emerging discrepancies has drawn criticism, raising questions about the agency’s commitment to addressing candidate grievances and ensuring a transparent process.
