Shillong: North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum was flown to Christian Medical College (CMC) Vellore on Saturday morning for further treatment following a recurrence of health issues.
Nongrum, who had been receiving medical attention at Shillong’s H. Gordon Roberts Hospital in late April for gallbladder stones, reportedly developed additional complications after the initial treatment.
Based on the hospital’s recommendation, he was transferred to Vellore for specialized care.
The transfer was carried out via air ambulance, which departed from Umroi Airport on Saturday morning.
Nongrum, a prominent figure in Meghalaya politics and a strong advocate for his North Shillong constituency, was recently suspended from the Voice of the People Party (VPP).

Despite this political setback, he has remained an active voice in legislative matters.
His recent health condition has drawn concern from across the political spectrum.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, Leader of the Opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma, and Cabinet Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh were among those who visited Nongrum in Shillong before his transfer.
