SHILLONG: To address the growing issue of unemployment and foster skill development in the state, the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) is gearing up to orchestrate its first-ever mega job fair from August 16.
Dubbed “Rozgar Mela,” the three-day event is poised to present over 5,000 job opportunities spanning various sectors. The event’s significance will be underscored by the presence of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who will inaugurate this pivotal initiative on the university campus.
During a media briefing on August 10, NEHU Vice Chancellor, Prabha Shankar Shukla, revealed that the drive is open to aspirants from across the nation, ensuring inclusivity and nationwide participation.
Notably, two Fortune 500 companies, SODEXO and ADECCO, have confirmed their participation, with more firms expected to join. Shukla asserted that the available positions require immediate filling, necessitating candidates to be prepared for swift onboarding.
In the event, more than 2,000 positions (one-third of the total) are reserved for women, covering diverse qualifications – from high school graduates to diploma holders. Additionally, these roles promise benefits beyond remuneration, including subsidised food, cab facilities, and more.
With the minimum eligibility being a 10th-grade education, the salary packages exceed the state’s minimum wage, ensuring a competitive compensation structure.
Shukla also announced that NEHU is set to provide 300 free-of-cost System, Applications, and Products (SAP) certification and training sessions to technical graduates. To be eligible, candidates must have a Meghalaya domicile. Suitable candidates include those from IT, CSE, BCA, MCA, and MBA (IT, E-Commerce) backgrounds. These training sessions will be facilitated by certified SAP trainers through physical sessions.
The Vice Chancellor also hinted at future prospects for the region’s youth, mentioning forthcoming internship, apprenticeship, and skill development programs, with more details to be unveiled soon. Taking a broader perspective, Shukla urged the youth to look beyond government roles and venture into entrepreneurship, emphasising global job opportunities. “NEHU aims to bridge the employment gap through the Rozgar Mela,” he added.
