As part of the observance of the 16th National Voters’ Day, the West Jaintia Hills district administration announced the addition of 4,239 new names to the electoral rolls, reflecting a boost in voter enrolment across the district.
The event was held on Friday at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Election Branch, and drew participation from senior citizens, first-time voters, government officials and election staff.
The programme opened with a voter’s pledge administered by Additional Deputy Commissioner D V Lyngdoh.
Explaining the significance of the occasion, Lyngdoh said the observance was advanced by a day as January 25 falls on a Sunday this year.
She highlighted that National Voters’ Day aims to motivate citizens—especially newly eligible voters—to register and engage responsibly in the democratic process.
