SHILLONG: In a distressing development, the bodies of two young individuals who disappeared in September were discovered in the Marbisu village, falling under the jurisdiction of the Mawngap Police Station, in Meghalaya.
Just a day after the discovery of 18-year-old Phibankyntiew Sun in the Knian River on Monday, 20-year-old Wanboklang Kurbah’s body was retrieved on Wednesday. Both were students at St. Paul’s Higher Secondary School in Marbisu.
It was local fishermen who first noticed Sun’s body trapped in the Knian River on Monday. Following the sighting, a recovery mission ensued, culminating in the extraction of her body on October 3. Her remains were later moved to Shillong Civil Hospital that night, where a sorrowful gathering of family and community members convened to pay their last respects.
Even as the villagers tried to come to grips with the loss of Sun, the discovery of Kurbah’s body in close proximity to the previous site added to the grief.
The mysterious nature of their simultaneous disappearances has sparked concerns and speculations. Reports suggest that there were reservations within their families about the relationship between the two, primarily due to familial ties. The police are currently probing every facet of the case, not ruling out the potential of a joint suicide.
Marbisu’s close-knit community is left reeling, mourning the tragic end of two promising young lives.
