SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) on Thursday agreed to publish the marks of all candidates who appeared in the Meghalaya Civil Service (MCS) Preliminary Examination within 24 hours, following pressure from the Khasi Students’ Union.
MPSC chairman PR Marwein agreed to publish the marks after a meeting with KSU leaders on Thursday evening.
The KSU has been demanding transparency into the MCS exams conducted by the MPSC.
KSU president Lambokstarwell Marngar said that the commission has agreed to publish the answer keys (Prelims), including both incorrect and corrected versions, as well as details of three disputed questions and their correct answers for the preliminary exam within the specified timeframe.
The students’ body has also raised concerns regarding the personal interview process for the Meghalaya Police Service.
The union demanded that the interviews for Meghalaya Police Service posts should be according to the original advertisement of 2019 where the post-candidate ratio is 1:2.5 and not according to the new office memorandum that changed the ratio to 1:1.5.
Marngar said the chairman had sought time to discuss the interview ratio with other members of the commission.
The MPSC has agreed to postpone the personal interviews for the Meghalaya Police Service, initially scheduled for August 20 and 21, 2024, until further notice.
The meeting minutes also stated that candidate roll numbers should remain consistent from the preliminary examination to the personal interview for the Meghalaya Civil Service examination.
The KSU had earlier staged a sit-in protest demanding the release of marks for all preliminary exam candidates.
Accusing the commission of indulging in nepotism and corruption, the union also burned its effigy as a form of protest. The protestors were led by Marngar and the KSU’s general secretary, Donald V Thabah. It vowed to continue their demonstration until their demands were met.
