Shillong: A motorcyclist was charred to death after his two-wheeler collided head-on with a night service bus in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district late Wednesday, police said.
The accident took place around 10.20 pm in Nongpoh when the motorcycle, reportedly coming from the wrong side, rammed into the bus carrying over 50 passengers on the Guwahati–Shillong route.
The impact triggered a blaze that engulfed both the two-wheeler and the bus.
A fire service team from Nongpoh rushed to the spot and managed to extinguish the flames. While all passengers escaped unhurt, they were left badly shaken by the incident.
Police confirmed that the motorcyclist died instantly. His identity has not yet been established.
The body has been sent to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for post-mortem.
