Shillong: The Meghalaya IT Awards ceremony, held at the U Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong on Monday, saw the recognition of meritorious Class X and XII students who were awarded laptops for their outstanding achievements.
In his address, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma highlighted the critical role that youth play in driving the state’s growth and development.
“The government is deeply committed to empowering our young people,” he stated, emphasising that youth are central to the decision-making process and that policies and initiatives are designed with their best interests in mind.
Sangma also underscored the government’s focus on developing sports infrastructure to nurture young talent.
“We aim to prepare our youth to compete at the national and international levels, including in the Olympics,” he remarked.
This initiative, he explained, forms part of a broader strategy to ensure the holistic development of the state’s young people and empower them to achieve their full potential.
He elaborated on the government’s lifecycle approach to decision-making, stressing that the focus is on the needs of mothers, children, and youth.
“We are laying the foundation for the future of our state and country,” he added, reiterating that policies are designed with a holistic approach that prioritises the growth and development of the state’s people.
Congratulating more than 300 meritorious students from the 2023-24 batch, Sangma encouraged the students to maintain discipline and punctuality in life.
“This award is not just recognition for your hard work but also the beginning of your journey. We believe you will continue to strive for excellence and inspire others,” he said.

The chief minister also reflected on the government’s shift away from traditional, scheme-based approaches, which often focus solely on programme implementation without considering the end goal of making a tangible impact on people’s lives.
“While schemes like PMGSY, JJM, and farmers’ welfare initiatives are important, the ultimate goal is to bring about positive change in people’s lives,” he said.
Moving forward, the government will focus more on achieving meaningful outcomes and ensuring the practical benefits of its programs reach the people.
