Shillong: Wallambok Lyngdoh, General Secretary of the Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA), has been elected to the Governing Council of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF).
The election took place on November 14 during the 61st Annual General Body Meeting held at the IMF Campus, New Delhi.
The IMF is the apex body responsible for regulating and overseeing mountaineering and allied adventure sports activities in the country. It functions as the regulatory authority under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports for sport climbing at the national and international levels, including prestigious events such as the Asian Games and the Olympics. The IMF is also affiliated with the International Federation of Sport Climbing.
A total of 16 eminent mountaineers contested the election, from which 11 members were elected to the GC.
The new council, along with newly elected President Col. Vijay Singh, VSM (Retd), will serve a two-year term.
Wallambok secured 76 votes, the third-highest among all candidates in the election.
Members elected to the GC for the term 2025–2027 include Prem Singh (Retired IG, ITBP), Debraj Dutta (Kolkata), Wallambok Lyngdoh (Meghalaya), Col. Anand Swaroop (Retired), Harbhajan Singh (Retired IG, ITBP), M.R. Vijayraghavan (Karnataka), K. Saraswati (Maharashtra), Yambem Laba (Manipur), Debabrata Mukherjee (Kolkata), Keerthi Pais (Karnataka) and Group Captain R.C. Tripathi, VM (G) (Retired).

MeSCMA said Lyngdoh’s presence in the council will greatly benefit the association, boosting efforts to promote mountaineering and sport climbing at both the state and national levels. His inclusion is also expected to enhance the visibility and representation of the North-East region in national adventure-sports platforms, it added.
