SHILLONG: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has affirmed that it would not align with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre, citing ideological differences.
VPP leader Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, on Wednesday, reiterated the party’s stance, highlighting their unwavering commitment to “secularism and the inclusive representation of all faiths”.
“We will not be able to give support to the NDA due to our ideological differences,” declared Basaiawmoit, underscoring the VPP’s adherence to its principles.
Basaiawmoit further announced the VPP’s readiness to lend support to the INDIA bloc on matters concerning national interests and citizen welfare, particularly advocating for the protection of minority rights.

While acknowledging overtures from both the NDA and the INDIA bloc, Basaiawmoit clarified that the VPP currently perceives no necessity to align with the latter, despite its willingness to extend support as needed.
Responding to queries regarding the party’s potential distinctiveness in Parliament, Basaiawmoit stated that no decision had been reached on this matter.
In electoral triumph, party’s candidate Dr. Ricky Andrew J. Syngkon secured victory in the Shillong (ST) seat, triumphing over Congress’ Vincent H. Pala by a substantial margin of 3,71,910 votes.
“Our vision is to revive, restore, and transform Meghalaya. That is our commitment, and we will uphold it,” Syngkon had said, articulating the party’s dedication to the state’s revitalisation.
While highlighting the VPP’s extensive 24-point manifesto, Syngkon had stressed on the prioritisation of key sectors for immediate action, signalling the party’s proactive approach to addressing pressing issues in Meghalaya.
