Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday inaugurated the Apollo Trinity Medical Center in Shillong, a landmark development in the region’s healthcare infrastructure.
The centre is the result of a strategic partnership between the state government and Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Health Minister Dr. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh, Chief Secretary D.P. Wahlang, and Rana Dasgupta, Regional CEO – East of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited.
During his address, the chief minister expressed immense pride in the completion of the medical facility, highlighting his involvement in the project from its inception.
He underscored the government’s dedication to improving healthcare, noting that Meghalaya allocates nearly 9% of its total budget to the sector—one of the highest allocations in India.
Sangma emphasised that the new medical centre would ease the financial burden on residents who previously had to travel outside the state for medical care.
“Healthcare has been a priority for our government. From improving rural healthcare to enhancing medical infrastructure, we’ve made substantial progress. This facility will bridge the gaps and bring quality healthcare directly to the people of Meghalaya,” he stated.
The chief minister also outlined a series of other healthcare initiatives underway in the state, including the recruitment of 500 doctors, the introduction of solar-powered sub-centres, and the digitisation of medical records.
He called on healthcare professionals at the new centre to provide compassionate, high-quality care to patients.
Addressing the environmental concerns in Shillong, Sangma pledged government support for various infrastructure improvements, including drain cleaning and city beautification projects.
He concluded his speech by extending gratitude to Apollo Hospitals and Trinity Healthcare for their role in bringing the Apollo Trinity Medical Center to life.
Health Minister Dr. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh reflected on the transformation of the site, which was previously an open playground, into a world-class healthcare facility.
Rana Dasgupta, Regional CEO – East of Apollo Hospitals, reaffirmed Apollo’s commitment to delivering world-class healthcare in Meghalaya. He outlined the centre’s focus on early diagnosis and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and stressed the importance of quick diagnostic reports and patient-centric care.
The Apollo Trinity Medical Center is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic services, including ECG, TMT, echocardiography, pulmonary function tests, ultrasound, X-rays, dental care, ophthalmology, physiotherapy, and an integrated lab linked to Apollo Diagnostics.

The radiology department is connected to Apollo TeleRadiology International for expert consultations and reports.
Looking ahead, the centre plans to expand its services in the coming phase, with the introduction of dialysis, endoscopy, CT scans, and MRI services.
The centre will also launch a dedicated patient app for appointment bookings, home sample collections, and digital medical records access, improving operational efficiency and reducing waiting times.
Telemedicine consultations with top Apollo specialists from cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata, and Guwahati will further extend access to expert medical advice for patients in the region.
The Apollo Trinity Medical Center, officially launched in December 2024, marks a milestone in the state’s efforts to provide world-class healthcare to its citizens.
