Shillong: In a significant political development, Meghalaya Trinamool Congress (TMC) vice-president and former minister Zenith Sangma resigned from the party and its primary membership on Tuesday, signalling the end of his association with the Mamata Banerjee-led outfit.
In his resignation letter, Zenith described the move as a “difficult but thoughtful decision” taken after much reflection on his political journey and future goals.
“My time with the TMC has been meaningful and full of valuable experiences. I will always be thankful for the trust and support extended to me by party colleagues and supporters,” he said.
He noted that it was time to embark on a new chapter “that aligns more closely with his personal vision and the aspirations of the people he represents.”
Party insiders indicated that the former Rangsakona legislator is set to return to the Congress, his former political home, on Wednesday.

His re-entry will reportedly take place in the presence of senior Congress leaders, including AICC in-charge for Meghalaya A. Chellakumar and state Congress president Vincent H. Pala, during a press conference scheduled at the Congress Bhavan in Shillong.
Zenith, the younger brother of Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma, had joined the TMC along with his sibling in 2021 after breaking away from the Congress.
His resignation marks another realignment in Meghalaya’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
