Shillong: A horrifying incident unfolded in Shillong, Meghalaya, on January 1, as a 23-year-old man was brutally attacked and stabbed in both the eye and the ribs.
The victim, identified as Deva Kharkongor, sustained grave injuries during the assault.
He was stabbed with a pair of scissors, causing a deep wound on the left side of his ribs and severe damage to his right eye. The attack occurred at approximately 9:38 pm near the Ghumti parking lot in Shillong’s Cantonment area.
Following the incident, Deva was rushed to NEIGRIHMS hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The victim’s mother, Mera Kharkongor, promptly filed an FIR at the Jhalupara police outpost, naming Saidin Ali as the alleged attacker.

However, the accused remains at large and has yet to be apprehended by the authorities.
Local sources have highlighted the Cantonment area, particularly the Ghumti region, as a hotspot for anti-social activities.
Saidin Ali, the suspect in this case, reportedly has a history of criminal behaviour.
He has been arrested in the past for similar offenses but was subsequently released on those occasions.
The incident has sparked concern among residents, further drawing attention to the unsafe conditions in the area and the need for stricter law enforcement to address recurring criminal activities.
