Shillong: The 15th edition of the Rozgar Mela held in Shillong on Saturday saw 51 local youth receiving appointment letters across various government departments.
The event, held at the State Convention Centre, marked a shift toward job creation tailored to regional strengths and skill development in the North East.
The Shillong chapter of the Rozgar Mela was part of a nationwide recruitment drive that saw over 51,000 appointments handed out simultaneously across 47 locations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the gathering virtually, underlining the importance of a “future-ready workforce” and reaffirming the government’s commitment to building a skilled, self-reliant India.
Highlighting local participation, the Shillong ceremony focused on job roles that align with Meghalaya’s growing sectors, such as tourism, sustainable energy, digital governance, and geological research.
The appointees will join departments including the Income Tax, Postal Services, Geological Survey of India, and the Indian Railways.
Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, who attended the Shillong event, stated, “This initiative is more than a hiring exercise—it’s a blueprint for empowering India’s youth, especially in the North East, by aligning opportunity with potential.”
