Ampati: Meghalaya Police recovered the body of an unidentified elderly woman near the old waiting shed at Joyfar Junction under Ampati Police Station on Tuesday morning.
According to police, information about the body was received through a telephonic call, following which a team reached the spot and conducted an inquest in the presence of independent witnesses.
The body was later shifted to the morgue of the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), Ampati, for post-mortem examination.
Preliminary observations and inputs from local residents suggest that the deceased appeared to be mentally unstable and in poor health.

She had reportedly been seen frequenting the area for the past three to four months. Locals also indicated that she may belong to the Muslim community, as she was often heard uttering “Allah.”
The deceased is described as a thin-built woman, approximately 60 years old, around five feet tall, with a dark complexion and short grey hair. The body has been kept at the DMHO morgue for identification.
Police have appealed to relatives or acquaintances of the deceased to come forward and claim the body within three days.
