Shillong: A woman was killed and three others were injured after a coal-laden truck lost control and overturned onto two vehicles in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district, police said on Thursday.
The accident occurred on Wednesday evening along National Highway 6 near Byndihati village when the truck, which was travelling from Khliehriat towards Lumshnong, reportedly skidded off the road.
The heavy vehicle then overturned onto a car and a jeep moving along the highway.

East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Rasgania said the truck driver lost control before the vehicle toppled onto the two light motor vehicles.
All occupants of the affected vehicles sustained injuries in the crash and were rushed to Khliehriat Civil Hospital for treatment.
Police later confirmed that one of the injured, a woman, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Officials said the coal consignment was being transported to a cement factory in accordance with the prescribed Standard Operating Procedure (SoP).
An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
