Shillong: In a major step towards improving the state’s education system, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday launched the e-books for the CM Impact Meghalaya Class Readiness Program, aimed at bridging learning gaps and ensuring greater academic success across grades.

During his address, the chief minister highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to transform the education sector in Meghalaya.

He acknowledged the various challenges faced, such as issues with teachers, infrastructure, and different types of schools, but emphasised that improving the pass percentage in secondary school exams has remained a central focus.

“We have been working hard to tackle these challenges while focusing on improving the quality of education at both the secondary and foundational levels,” he said.

Sangma further emphasised the importance of systemic change in teaching and learning methods within the classroom.

“With initiatives like the Meghalaya Class Readiness Program, we hope to bridge educational gaps and make a lasting impact across different levels of the education system,” he added.

The Meghalaya Class Readiness Program is a transformative initiative aimed at empowering students and strengthening the state’s educational framework.

The programme focuses on bridging learning gaps and building strong foundational literacy skills to ensure students are prepared for success as they progress through grades 1 to 10.

The initiative is designed to be highly interactive and experiential, incorporating engaging learning materials to make education more effective and enjoyable for students.

Set to be implemented over four weeks, the program targets all teachers across the state’s schools and aims to provide a short-term yet significant intervention to achieve equitable and quality education.

Swapnil Tembe, Director of the Directorate of School Education and Literacy, explained that the program is based on the Vidya Pravesh module developed by NCERT, designed to help students transition smoothly between grades.

“The programme is designed to prepare students for each grade level, ensuring they are class-ready and ready to make a seamless transition from one level to another,” Tembe noted.

He also mentioned that the Directorate would be conducting a webinar for teachers to train them on the specifics of the Meghalaya Class Readiness Program.

This initiative is expected to contribute significantly to improving educational outcomes and making learning more accessible and effective for all students in Meghalaya.

The launch event was attended by Chief Secretary D.P. Wahlang, Commissioner & Secretary of Education Vijay Mantri, and Chairman of MIDC James K. Sangma.
