Shillong: Residents of Dong Mihsngi, a locality within Bataw village in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district, have issued an urgent appeal to Cabinet Minister A T Mondal, requesting immediate action to provide electricity to their area.
In a letter submitted to the minister, community representatives highlighted the hardships faced due to the absence of electricity in the locality.
They emphasised that the lack of power has severely disrupted daily life, particularly during the evenings and night hours, making even basic tasks a challenge.
The appeal, signed by Ajoymeson Lyngdoh, president, and Barister Suchiang, secretary, outlined the growing difficulties experienced by the residents.
Students are unable to study at night, families struggle with household chores, and the local economy is suffering due to the inability to run small businesses or properly utilise agricultural resources that require electricity.
The absence of street lighting has also raised safety concerns, with residents pointing to increased risks during night-time hours, especially for children and the elderly.
