Shillong: The Town Vending Committee (TVC) has issued a notice directing street vendors in the Khyndai-Lad area to relocate to designated vending zones following the issuance of Certificates of Vending (COVs).
The relocation is part of the implementation of the Meghalaya Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Scheme 2023, in conjunction with the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act 2014.
The notice follows a government notification issued on May 2, 2025, designating the upper floor of MUDA as a vending zone for eligible vendors.
Vendors possessing valid COVs have been instructed to shift to their assigned zones starting July 22, 2025.
Additionally, as per another government directive dated May 26, 2025, the remaining areas of Khyndai-Lad have been declared no-vending zones.
Vendors without valid COVs, or those currently operating outside designated zones, have been asked to vacate the area within three days of the notice’s publication.
The Chairperson of the Town Vending Committee, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Shillong Municipal Board, emphasized the need for compliance.
The notice aims to streamline street vending activities while ensuring the protection of livelihoods and maintaining order in public spaces.
Affected vendors are urged to adhere to the relocation guidelines to avoid penalties and support the government’s efforts to regulate vending in the area.
