Ampati: In a major clamp down on drug trafficking, the Meghalaya police intercepted a suspected trafficker on State Highway 12 near the Kiln Factory at Ambari in South West Garo Hills on Saturday.
The suspect, identified as Md Aktar Hussain (32), is a resident of Fekamari in Assam’s South Salmara Mankachar District.
He was detained with a cache of suspected contraband substances. The seized items include 992 yaba tablets (methamphetamine), 2 soap boxes containing heroin weighing a total of 19.21 grams and a bike.
The operation is part of the ongoing efforts of the South West Garo Hills Police to curb the menace of drug trafficking and ensure the safety of the community.

The suspect has been remanded to police custody for three days. Further investigation is ongoing to identify potential connections to larger drug trafficking networks.
A total of 12 cases have been registered against such drug traffickers in the year 2024, where South West Garo Hills Police made 17 arrests.
