Guwahati: The Meghalaya government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) in a bid to improve health, nutrition, and agriculture outcomes in the state.
This partnership marks a significant milestone for Meghalaya, making it the third Indian state, after Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, to collaborate with the Gates Foundation in the areas of health and agriculture.
The MoU was signed by M Hari Menon, director of the India Country Office at the Gates Foundation, and Sampath Kumar, principal secretary of the Meghalaya Health & Family Welfare Department, in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The signing ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Health & Family Welfare Minister M Ampareen Lyngdoh.
The MoU aims to address critical health issues such as maternal and newborn health, family planning, and nursing education. Additionally, the partnership will focus on enhancing agriculture and livestock development in the state.
This collaboration between the Meghalaya government and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is expected to have a profound impact on the lives of the state’s residents by improving their overall health and well-being.
The MoU aims to realize efficient and effective healthcare solutions in Meghalaya, with both parties pledging to undertake numerous activities to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Under the agreement, BMGF will provide financial and technical support to improve outcomes in 12 key areas.
