SHILLONG: Taking note of the rampant traffic violations and noise pollution in the city, the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) in Meghalaya has issued a stern warning to motorists to comply with the ‘One Way’ traffic regulation.
According to STP, several instances of drivers violating the ‘One Way’ traffic regulation have posed significant risks to other road users.
The STP also expressed growing concern over two-wheelers overtaking vehicles from the left side, creating disturbances for pedestrians and passengers who de-board vehicles.
Superintendent of Police S. Nongtynger said such gross violations of traffic rules pose a risk to other road users and could potentially lead to fatal accidents.
Besides, the Shillong Traffic Police has also noticed a surge in vehicles, both two and four-wheelers, equipped with excessively loud exhaust pipes.
“This has led to severe noise pollution, especially at night, causing immense disturbances for the residents of Shillong city,” the STP stated.
The STP further said that despite repeated appeals, the vehicles continue to ply with unauthorized black or tinted films, blinkers, flashlights, and sirens, which are against traffic regulations.
The STP has urged all motorists to adhere to traffic rules and regulations while driving to ensure road safety and maintain a safe environment for the residents and visitors of Shillong.
It further cautioned that violators will face penalties as per the provisions of the law.
