SHILLONG: The Meghalaya police on Friday have appealed to anyone with information regarding the recent discovery of a human skull and several body parts in Shillong to come forward and help identify the victim.
Over the past three days, city police have recovered severed human remains from a drain along Bivar Road.
The first discovery occurred on May 22, when a passerby reported finding a skull lying next to the drain.
According to a statement issued by East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Rituraj Ravi, authorities swiftly launched an investigation and search operation to identify the deceased and locate any remaining body parts.
The search team made a further discovery on May 23, uncovering decomposed lower limbs inside the drain near Bivar Road.
The following day, May 24, parts of an upper torso were also recovered from the same drain after an extended search effort.
“Further search is still ongoing. The recovered body parts have been sent to NEIGRIHMS for medical examination. The body is suspected to be of a male person based on the apparel found on the remains,” SP Ravi told the press.
In response to these findings, a case has been registered at Sadar Police Station under Case No. 160(05)2024, invoking Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
Efforts are currently being made to identify the victim, and the investigation remains active.
Emerging reports suggest that recent heavy rains may have contributed to the dispersion and condition of the remains, indicating they were likely washed down the drain.
