Meghalaya police rejig: New IGs, DIGs, SPs appointed

Shillong: The Meghalaya government has carried out a major reshuffle in the police establishment, ordering a series of promotions and transfers involving several IPS and MPS officers across key ranks, battalions and districts.

The changes, approved by the Civil Services Board and the Police Establishment Board, will come into effect from January 1, 2026, according to a notification issued by the Home (Police) Department on December 19.

At the senior level, Davis N. Rangsa Marak (IPS 2008) has been promoted from Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eastern Range, and posted as Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), Shillong.

Aditya Goenka (IPS 2008), who was serving as DIG, CID, has also been elevated and appointed Inspector General of Police, CID, Shillong.

Following these promotions, Vivekanand Singh (IPS 2012), earlier Superintendent of Police, Ri-Bhoi district, has been promoted and posted as DIG, Eastern Range, while Sylvester Nongtnger (IPS 2012) has taken charge as DIG (Security), Shillong.

Several changes have been made at the senior superintendent and superintendent levels. Rituraj Ravi (IPS 2013), previously Commandant of the 6th MLP Battalion, Umran, has been promoted and posted as Senior Superintendent of Police, TAP, Shillong.

Giri Prasad M (IPS 2017), earlier SP, ANTF, has been promoted and transferred as SP, Ri-Bhoi district.

A number of 2017-batch IPS officers have also been promoted in situ, including Nangkiew K. Syiem as SP (R/PR), Maxwell B. Syiem as SP, AID, Lakador Syiem as Administrative Officer at the Meghalaya Police Academy, Bobby S.W. Momin as SP, SB-I, and Goldenbert D. Kharmawphlang as SP, ATS, all in Shillong.

Among younger IPS officers, Shivangi Goel (IPS 2022) has been promoted and posted as Deputy Commandant, 6th MLP Battalion, Umran.

Saurav Kumar Saini (IPS 2022) has been promoted and appointed Additional Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills district, while Lovish Garg and Ashu Pant, both of the 2022 batch, have been promoted and posted as Deputy Commandants of the 5th MLP Battalion, Samanda.

A series of transfers have also been ordered among IPS officers.

Pankaj Kumar Rasgania (IPS 2020) has moved from SP, Cyber, to SP, ANTF, Shillong.

Naman Kumar (IPS 2021) has been posted as SP, VIS, Shillong, while Dewansh Pandey (IPS 2021) has been appointed SP, City, East Khasi Hills.

Ishan Gupta (IPS 2021) continues as SP, CM Security, and Ashish (IPS 2021) has been transferred as Commandant, 6th MLP Battalion, Umran. Dheeraj Yadav (IPS 2021) has taken charge as SP, Cyber, Shillong.

The reshuffle also covers several Meghalaya Police Service officers. Bikram D. Marak has been transferred from SP, West Khasi Hills, to Assistant Inspector General of Police (E), Shillong. Lethindra Sangma has been posted as SP, AID, Tura, while Rupam R. Marak has moved to SP, Traffic, Tura.

Herbert Pyniaid Kharkongor has been transferred as SP, West Khasi Hills, and Feroz Rehman has taken charge as SP, EOW, Shillong.

Further changes include Ialamlad Kharkongor being posted as Deputy Commandant, 3rd MLP Battalion, Sahbsein, and Gilbert Armstrong Lyngdoh Marshillong taking over as Additional SP, West Khasi Hills district.

At the deputy superintendent level, Basant Kumar Mishra and Santosh Kumar have been interchanged between CBPS, Eastern Range, and CCW, CID, Shillong.

Officials said the reshuffle is aimed at strengthening policing and administrative efficiency across the state ahead of the new year.
