SHILLONG: Meghalaya’s Director General of Police (DGP), L R Bishnoi, has issued a stern warning to the drug mafia, vowing to safeguard the state’s youth from falling prey to drug addiction.
In a resolute stance against the pervasive drug menace, the DGP reiterated the Meghalaya Police’s unwavering commitment to curbing drug trafficking and disrupting the illicit drug supply chains operating in the region.
Taking to social media on Sunday, DGP Bishnoi applauded the successful operation led by the East Khasi Hills police, which resulted in the arrest four traffickers and seizure of a substantial quantity of heroin valued at Rs 1 crore, along with Rs 45,000 in cash.

Praising the swift and decisive action taken by the police, the DGP affirmed the continued efforts to dismantle such nefarious networks and thwart their operations.
Investigations are underway to unravel the entire supply network, thereby weakening the stranglehold of the drug mafia on the region.
The seizure of heroin worth Rs 1 crore underscores the alarming scale of the illicit drug trade prevailing in the state, prompting authorities to intensify their efforts in eradicating this menace from society.
Earlier revelations by DGP Bishnoi on March 6 shed light on the gravity of the situation, highlighting that a concerning 10% of drug traffickers in Meghalaya are women.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Police Headquarters in Shillong, the DGP had disclosed that the Meghalaya Police, in 2023, have apprehended 355 individuals involved in drug trafficking, and in 2024, 25 individuals have been arrested so far.
He further divulged that 116 drug-related cases were registered in 2022, followed by 189 cases in 2023, with an additional 13 cases recorded in the initial months of 2024.
