Shillong: The Meghalaya Police has rolled out a set of traffic helpline numbers assigned to different traffic branches in Shillong, aiming to improve real-time response to road-related issues and emergencies across the city.
Superintendent of Police (East Khasi Hills), Vivek Syiem, announced the launch on Thursday, highlighting that the move is designed to offer swift support in cases of congestion, accidents, vehicle breakdowns, hazardous road conditions, and other traffic disruptions.
“Shillong’s topography, marked by narrow roads and hilly terrain, often leads to severe traffic bottlenecks, especially during peak hours and adverse weather,” Syiem said.
“These dedicated helplines are an effort to make our traffic management more responsive and citizen-friendly.”
