Shillong: Meghalaya police apprehended a former militant during an operation at Baringgre Chambildam village in Dambo Rongjeng in the East Garo Hills district on Sunday.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding the possession of illegal arms and ammunition, the Special Operation Team of East Garo Hills District Police launched an operation at Baringgre Chambildam under Rongjeng Police Station.
During the operation, Mexbal K. Marak alias Menil (44), a resident of Silchanggittim village under Rongjeng Police Station, was apprehended.
Police seized the suspected 7.65mm pistol (Chinese-made) that was recovered from his possession.

During preliminary interrogation, Marak revealed that he was a member of the ANVC-B militant group.
He joined the militant organization in 2008 but surrendered during the peace agreement in 2015.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
