Shillong: North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla has urged faculty members to work together to restore stability and prioritize academic progress.
In a letter to NEHU faculty members, VC Prof. Shukla acknowledged that the recent disruptions have impacted the institution, particularly causing delays in the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) promotions.
“The recent disruptions over the past few months have affected various facets of our university. I am particularly aware of how these have delayed crucial processes, especially the CAS promotions,” PS Shukla said.
“When I initiated work on CAS in 2024, my intention was to complete the promotions by March 2025, giving special priority to those at the highest stages of their careers, particularly those approaching retirement. Unfortunately, unforeseen challenges have stalled this process which is continuously going on. I regret the delay and want to assure you that finalizing CAS remains a top priority,” he said.
He said, “Recognizing and rewarding the hard work, dedication, and scholarly contributions of our academicians are essential, and I am determined to ensure that deserving faculty receive their due acknowledgment without further delay.”
The Vice-Chancellor expressed deep respect and appreciation for the faculty’s dedication to NEHU, recognizing them as “the intellectual pillars” of the institution.
He highlighted their crucial role in guiding young minds and shaping the future through their commitment to teaching and research, aligned with the National Education Policy.
He stated that recent disruptions had significantly affected NEHU’s fundamental goals of education and research.
Shukla further claimed that administrative slowdowns had caused delays in important approvals, affected academic schedules, and created uncertainty among students.
“A university thrives when its faculty, staff, and administration collaborate harmoniously with the ethics of teaching. I appeal to your collective wisdom and commitment. Let us work together to restore stability and focus on our common goals i.e. academic progress, faculty recognition, and student success. NEHU’s excellence depends on our unity and shared vision,” he stated.
