Shillong: The North Eastern Hill University Teachers Association (NEHUTA) has strongly condemned the actions of incumbent Vice Chancellor Prof. PS Shukla, alleging that his abuse of power has significantly impeded the university’s smooth functioning and disrupted several official proceedings.
In a statement, the NEHUTA said, “Needless to say, that it is much beyond propriety on his part when he is absent and the university community is putting up an ongoing pressure on authorities for his removal. Despite on leave in the advice of the authorities, he is repeatedly interfering into normal functioning of the University so that his dictatorial motive is imposed on every function, duties and powers of the Vice Chancellor who is performing all these duties as prescribed by the Statutes of the University.”
The association alleged that despite being advised by authorities to go on leave, Prof. PS Shukla allegedly continues to represent the University in official meetings, which constitutes a serious violation of the University Act and Statute.
“He is not entitled to represent the university as per the laws of the university. Therefore, Prof PS Shukla is attempting to overstep the Act and Statutes and violating norms of functioning,” NEHUTA said.
Condemning such unwarranted interference by Prof PS Shukla, the NEHUTA said instances of repeated interference by Prof PS Shukla show how much he is perturbed by ongoing movement demanding his removal.
The association asserted that the university is plagued by widespread mismanagement, including the appointment of unqualified individuals to crucial positions.
NEHUTA said that these actions deemed “anti-tribal” and “anti-local” by associations have led to numerous violations of university acts, statutes, and ordinances.
This accumulation of insensitive actions has fostered an environment of chaos and eroded accountability, fairness, transparency, and equality within the institution. Consequently, academic, administrative, and financial mismanagement has become rampant, severely damaging NEHU’s reputation and credibility, it said.
“In the same way he repeats sabotaging crucial functioning of NEHU without any accountability of its deleterious consequences,” it said.

The NEHUTA said that it sees a pattern in his desperate attempts to sabotage NEHU from outside so that maximum damage can be done to NEHU.
“These vindictive sabotaging acts of Prof Shukla shall make him more and more answerable as he is facing inquiry and all his misdeeds are now under scanner,” it added.
