Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday inaugurated a Khasi traditional mural at Rymbai Fuel Station in Mawlai Mawiong Rim to commemorate 20 years of Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun.

Addressing the gathering, the chief minister congratulated the organisation on completing two decades of service and contribution to the Mawlai area.

He said the government’s functioning is guided by the principle of inclusive development, with special emphasis on ensuring that all sections of society are taken care of.

Describing youth as the most critical section of society, Sangma said traditional youth organisations such as Seng Samlas play an important role not only in shaping the future but also in addressing present-day challenges of the state.

He urged young people to actively avail themselves of various state government programmes and schemes designed for youth development, skill-building, engagement and empowerment.

Highlighting the increasingly competitive global environment, the chief minister called upon the youth of Mawlai and the rest of the state to prepare themselves to compete at the highest levels.

While constitutional safeguards exist to protect rights, he said there should be no room for complacency and expressed hope that the anniversary celebrations would inspire young people to become agents of positive change.

Sangma also said the mural, depicting Khasi culture and traditions, would add to the visual appeal of the area and serve as a vibrant welcome for tourists entering Shillong.

During the event, memorandums highlighting various concerns and needs of the Mawlai area were submitted to the chief minister by the Dorbar Shnong and Seng Samla organisations of the locality.
