Ampati: With a view to assessing sports infrastructure in Meghalaya’s South West Garo Hills, Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri paid a surprise visit to inspect the under-construction Nagrasket Football Turf and International Stadium at Ampati on Thursday.
Minister Warjri’s visit underscores the state government’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure, particularly in rural areas and aspirational districts like South West Garo Hills.
The Minister was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills, Dolrich B.G. Momin; District Sports Officer Saljagring M. Marak, SSCM Assistant Engineer, and other district officials.
During his inspection of the Nagrasket football turf, Warjri noted the deteriorating condition of the artificial surface.
He immediately directed the SSCM Engineer to begin renovation work and ensure the upgraded turf is promptly handed over to the District Sports Office and the Football Association of Ampati for proper management and public access.
At the International Stadium site, Minister Warjri expressed dissatisfaction over the pace and quality of the ongoing construction. He instructed SSCM to review the current construction activities and ensure that the remaining work is carried out under strict supervision to maintain standards and timelines.
