Shillong: The Indian Army held a solemn ceremony in Meghalaya’s Shillong on Friday to pay tribute to the brave soldiers who fought with tenacity in the 1971 Indo-Pak War for the liberation of West Pakistan (now Bangladesh).
To mark the occasion, Lieutenant General Sanjay Malik, Sena Medal, General Officer Commanding 101 Area, rededicated the renovated ‘Prerna Stal and Prerna Park’ to the nation’s war heroes.
“The newly renovated war memorial stands as a symbol of gratitude, honour, dedication and selflessness of our armed forces during the war. It will serve as a reminder to future generations of the enduring spirit of our national heroes,” Lieutenant General Malik said.
The ceremony featured a wreath-laying in honour of the fallen heroes followed by a light and sound show, showcasing the operations carried out by 101 Area during the 1971 War.
