Shillong: A special investigation team (SIT) of Meghalaya Police is set to reconstruct the crime scene in Sohra as part of its probe into the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi.
Among the arrested is the victim’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, who, along with four alleged accomplices, has been brought to Shillong for further investigation, a senior officer confirmed on Wednesday.
Sonam, who was taken into custody in Indore, arrived in Shillong around midnight and underwent medical examinations, including a pregnancy test, at a local hospital.
The results of the tests were negative, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem stated.
She is scheduled to be produced in court, where police will seek her custody for the next stage of the investigation.
The four other accused—Raj Kushwaha, Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kuli—were apprehended in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
They have also been transferred to Shillong on transit remand and are expected to appear before a local court.
Dubbed “Operation Honeymoon,” the investigation has seen the SIT collecting evidence from multiple locations linked to the accused, including residences in Indore and Ghazipur.
Police revealed that the suspects allegedly conspired to murder Raghuvanshi, whose body was discovered in a gorge near Sohra on June 2, days after he and Sonam went missing during a vacation on May 23.
The SIT has obtained a six-day remand for the suspects arrested in Indore and a three-day remand for the accomplice detained in Ghazipur.
Officials plan to reconstruct the events leading to the murder at the crime scene to gather crucial evidence.
The chilling case, involving betrayal and violence, has left the serene hill state shaken as investigators work to piece together the details of the crime.
