SHILLONG: Meghalaya police are on high alert after a bomb threat was sent via email to the Meghalaya High Court on January 6, claiming explosives were planted not only within their premises but in every court across the country.
The threatening email, sent from an email – morguelol545@gmail.com, was also distributed to various courts nationwide.
The ominous message from the self-proclaimed “Terrorizers111” warned of simultaneous explosions set to occur in courts across India.
“I placed explosives inside of your court but also inside of every court from India. The explosives are well hidden, and they will go off in the morning. You will all end up in a pool of blood. GIVE OUR GROUP’S NAME TO THE MEDIA OR WE WON’T STOP CAUSING TERROR,” declared the sender.
In response, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger, announced heightened security measures, stating, “We have alerted the security teams posted in the court. We are keeping a close eye on the matter.”
A swift deployment of the bomb squad, complete with specialised sniffer canines, and a thorough search operation ensued within the premises of the Meghalaya High Court.
Despite the intense scrutiny, the threat was deemed a hoax, with no suspicious items discovered.
“A search operation was conducted throughout the court premises, but no suspicious article was found. The e-mail threat turned out to be a hoax. The sender will be arrested soon,” the local press quoted a police officer as saying.
The gravity of the situation extended beyond Meghalaya, as several museums in Mumbai, including the renowned Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum and the Nehru Science Centre in Worli, also received threatening emails warning of imminent bomb blasts.
Despite exhaustive investigations by the police and bomb disposal squads, no traces of explosives were found in the museums.
As authorities work to apprehend the perpetrator behind the alarming email threats, security remains heightened across courts and public spaces nationwide.
