SHILLONG: Security measures at the Meghalaya High Court were beefed up following a bomb threat received via email on Tuesday.
The threat, similar to one received on January 6 earlier this year, prompted immediate action from authorities.
According to a senior police officer speaking to a local news website, security protocols were swiftly heightened both within and around the high court premises in response to the threat communicated via email.
“In response to a threat issued through an email to the court authority, security measures were heightened at and around the high court,” the officer told the website.
On June 18, security drills including the deployment of bomb squads and bomb-sniffing dogs were conducted to ensure the safety of the premises.
Following the completion of the drills, the police officer confirmed that the area was declared clear of any imminent danger.
Meanwhile, local law enforcement has launched an inquiry into the credibility of the threat email to ascertain any potential risks and ensure the safety of court personnel and visitors.
This latest incident follows a disturbing pattern of security concerns at the Meghalaya High Court.
Earlier in April, two advocates associated with the High Court of Meghalaya Bar Association received threatening letters accompanied by bullets.
The letters warned them against representing specific clients and participating in related legal proceedings.
In response to these threats, the Executive Committee of the Meghalaya Bar Association convened a special meeting on April 10.
During the meeting, the Committee was greatly concerned about the threats to the advocates, especially with bullets included in the letters.
