Ampati: The Health Department of South West Garo Hills, in association with the Veterinary and Education Departments, successfully organized a World Rabies Day at Birin Nuchong School on Friday.
This year’s theme, “Breaking Rabies Boundaries,” emphasized a “One Health Approach to Rabies Elimination.”
Graced by BDO Betasing Crystal R. N. Sangma as the chief guest, the event brought together students, teachers, and officials from various departments.
A poster-making competition was held to mark the event, with students showcasing their creativity and knowledge about rabies prevention. Prizes were awarded to the winners by the chief guest.
Crystal R. N. Sangma highlighted the importance of observing World Rabies Day, stressing the need for awareness and preventive measures to achieve the goal of rabies elimination.
Dr. Gilsang Marak, AH & Veterinary Officer, delivered a comprehensive presentation on rabies, covering its nature, prevention strategies, and the importance of vaccination for both pets and livestock. He emphasized the goal of eradicating rabies in India by 2030.
Emphul Marak, SDSEO, emphasized the history of vaccination, harmful consequences of rabies, and need for pet vaccinations. He highlighted how advanced vaccination techniques play a vital role in protecting both pets and humans.
Dr. Matgrik K. Sangma, Medical and Health Officer and District Nodal Officer for the National Rabies Control Programme, provided valuable information on immediate steps to take after an animal bite, assuring participants that anti-rabies vaccines are safe for all, including pregnant women and infants.

The participants took a pledge to support rabies eradication efforts and participated in a rally to raise awareness among the citizens of Ampati.
The event served as a powerful reminder of the importance of collective action in combating this deadly disease.
