Ampati: The Hajong Students’ Union celebrated its 54th Foundation Day on Tuesday at Joyfar, Kherbaripara in Meghalaya’s South West Garo Hills, with a panel discussion on the theme “Empowering Students for a Bright Future.”
Harakumar Hajong, retired officer of the Indian Economic Service, graced the event as chief guest.
In his keynote address, he stated that according to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Medium of Instruction should include the Hajong and Koch languages. He further emphasized the importance of promoting indigenous languages through education.
Earlier, president Bappu Hajong delivered the welcome speech, highlighting the union’s 54-year journey of serving students and contributing to the development of the Hajong community
The event was attended by Phukan Hajong, Agriculture Development Officer, South West Garo Hills, as the guest of honour.
The event was also attended by Eva Rani Hajong, government teacher; Dibyojoti Hajong, Labour Inspector; Anando Koch from the Regional Council Demand Committee (RCDC); Kandarpa Koch, President of the Meghalaya Koch Students’ Union (MKSU), and Anubhav Hajong, convenor of MIMTF.

The programme concluded with a panel discussion on student empowerment and the need to strengthen unity among students for a brighter future.
