Ampati: The Hajong Student Union (HSU) has written to the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC), seeking clarification over the number of posts allotted to the Other Scheduled Tribes (OST) category in the recruitment for Lower Division Assistants (LDA) advertised under Advt. No. 19/2025.
In a letter addressed to the MPSC Chairman, the union pointed out a discrepancy in the number of vacancies reserved for OST candidates in the revised advertisement, which increased the total posts from 71 to 127.
According to the state’s Roster Reservation Policy, the OST category — which includes the Hajong community — is entitled to a 5% quota.

The HSU stated that, based on this ratio, at least six posts should have been allotted to OST candidates. However, the advertisement lists only five, creating “a shortfall of at least one post.”
Calling the issue a matter of fairness and inclusion, the HSU highlighted that the OST communities are among the smallest in the state, both in population and socioeconomic standing.
“Even a single post makes a significant difference to our representation,” the union said in its appeal.
The HSU urged the MPSC to review the vacancy distribution and issue a clarification to ensure that the reservation policy is implemented “in its true letter and spirit,” guaranteeing equal opportunity for candidates from all eligible tribal groups.
