Shillong: The Meghalaya Cabinet on Tuesday approved the regularisation of services of 221 nurses and paramedical staff, while also clearing a set of key policy and administrative decisions covering mental healthcare, land lease reforms and judicial services.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said the Cabinet gave formal recognition to the appointments of bonded nurses and paramedics recruited between 2008 and 2012 after a comprehensive examination of records and procedures.
According to Sangma, these appointments had earlier come under review due to a Cabinet decision that called for re-advertisement of government posts filled after 2007 where prescribed norms were not followed.
The bonded nursing and paramedical posts were initially included in that category.
However, following detailed consultations with the Health Department, interactions with the affected employees and scrutiny of official documentation, the government concluded that the recruitment process for these posts had adhered to the required guidelines.
“The Cabinet has approved the confirmation of these appointments, and there is no need for fresh recruitment for these positions,” the chief minister said in a post on social media.
The decision brings long-awaited clarity and employment security to healthcare personnel who have been serving the state for more than a decade, while also addressing concerns related to procedural compliance in government recruitment.
