Shillong: Shemborlang Rynjah, the newly elected Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), called on Meghalaya Governor C. H. Vijayashankar at Raj Bhavan on Friday.
He was accompanied by other newly elected Executive Members, Winston Tony Lyngdoh, Aibandaplin F. Lyngdoh Nonglait, Powell Sohkhlet, Seiborlang Warbah, Diety H. Majaw, Pynkhrawboklin Kharjahrin, Isynei Hinge, and their respective MDCs.
The Governor welcomed each member in a traditional manner by felicitating them with Khasi Ryndia.
During the meeting, the Governor congratulated Rynjah and the Executive Members on assuming office and conveyed his best wishes for their tenure.
The Executive Members briefed the Governor about the functioning of the District Council.
The Governor emphasized the importance of strengthening grassroots governance, preserving traditional institutions, and promoting inclusive development in the region.
He also expressed hope that the new Executive Committee would work with dedication to address the aspirations of the people and uphold the constitutional values enshrined in the Sixth Schedule.
Governor Vijayashankar also raised concerns about the need for stronger conservation of forest resources and biodiversity in the Khasi Hills region.
He underscored the urgency of preserving ecological balance while pursuing development goals and informed the visiting members that a series of planned meetings with relevant stakeholders would be initiated to address these environmental challenges in a comprehensive and coordinated manner.
He emphasized the promotion of Ayurvedic medicine, turmeric cultivation, and the strengthening of beekeeping practices in the region.
The Executive members briefed the Governor about the challenges faced by the Khasi Hills region and sought financial support to enhance developmental activities, especially for the upkeep of the Khasi Heritage Village at Mawphlang and the overall maintenance and preservation of cultural and infrastructural assets across the region.

The Chief Executive Member thanked the Governor for his guidance and assured full cooperation in working towards the welfare of the people of the Khasi Hills region.
