The elections for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) will be held on February 21, 2025, following the approval of Governor CH Vijayashankar.
The decision aligns with the cabinet’s recommendation, and the counting of votes will take place on February 24.
The election schedule was officially confirmed by the governor on December 16.
Deputy Chief Minister responsible for District Council Affairs, Prestone Tynsong, announced that the election notification will be issued on January 27.
February 3 has been set as the deadline for filing nominations, with the same day designated for scrutinizing nomination papers.
Candidates who wish to withdraw their nominations will have until February 4 to do so.
The draft electoral rolls will be made public on January 13.
Citizens will have until January 22 to file claims and objections, which will be resolved by January 24.
The finalised electoral rolls are expected to be published on January 27.
Tynsong further stated that the model code of conduct will take effect on January 27, coinciding with the release of the election notification.
This code will apply across all districts under KHADC and JHADC jurisdictions.
The funding for the elections will be drawn from the shares allocated to the respective councils.
