SHILLONG: In a significant step towards modernising the education system, the Meghalaya Government has unveiled plans to introduce an additional 5,000 smart classrooms in schools throughout the state.

This ambitious initiative aims to enhance the quality of education and bridge the digital divide, offering students access to cutting-edge learning resources and technology.

In a recent conversation with reporters, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma highlighted the state’s ongoing efforts to integrate technology into classrooms.

“The Education Department has already implemented smart classrooms in a number of institutions across Meghalaya,” he stated, highlighting that the state has been steadily moving towards a more tech-savvy education model.

Sangma further revealed that the state government has formally approached the central government with a proposal to secure funding for the establishment of 5,000 more smart classrooms.

These new classrooms will be equipped with advanced technology, aiming to provide a more interactive and engaging learning experience for students across the state.

The minister underscored the importance of incorporating modern technology into education, noting that smart classrooms are no longer just an option but a necessity in today’s educational environment.

“Smart classrooms are not just a trend but an essential part of contemporary education. They are crucial for enhancing student learning, and it is something we cannot afford to ignore,” Sangma remarked.

Alongside the expansion of smart classrooms, the minister also outlined plans to introduce QR code-enabled textbooks for students in classes 10 to 12, focusing on key subjects such as science, mathematics, and social science.

These textbooks, set to be rolled out in the next academic session, will feature QR codes that students can scan to access video lessons for each topic, along with solved exercise videos.

“This will serve as a comprehensive learning solution, providing a more interactive and in-depth approach to learning. It will also help eliminate the need for additional tuition for students,” Sangma explained.

This dual initiative of expanding smart classrooms and introducing QR code-enabled textbooks is expected to revolutionize the state’s education system.

By combining modern technology with traditional learning methods, the Meghalaya Government aims to improve learning outcomes, make education more accessible, and equip students with the necessary tools to succeed in the digital age.
