Shillong: Meghalaya is once again gearing up to paint the countryside red with its highly anticipated ‘Strawberry Festival’.
Organised by Meghalayan Age Limited (MAL) with support from the Departments of Tourism and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, the second edition of the festival is scheduled to take place on May 2 and 3.
More than just a celebration of the juicy fruit, the festival has blossomed into a significant platform showcasing the state’s rich agro-tourism potential, vibrant cultural heritage, and strides in rural development.
This year’s Strawberry Festival will take place across three scenic locations: Sohliya (Ri Bhoi District), Syntung (East Khasi District), and Darechikgre (West Garo Hills District).
Visitors will get a chance to witness an interesting array of activities, including strawberry picking, cooking demonstrations, local beverage workshop, live music, food, children’s activities and many more.
The inaugural edition, held on April 12–13, 2024, captured national attention with its delightful offerings, including the hands-on experience of fresh strawberry picking, insightful jam-making workshops, and a tempting array of strawberry-infused products like exquisite wines, flavourful jams, and refreshing ice creams.

In 2024, Meghalaya produced around 1,220 metric tonnes of strawberries, up from 1,196 metric tonnes in 2023, following government initiatives like sapling distribution to farmers.
The Strawberry Festival empowers the community by providing opportunities for local farmers, SHGs, and entrepreneurs, thereby fostering sustainable livelihoods and agro-tourism.
