Ampati: Demanding justice for the victims of two brutal rape cases that have shaken the region, a public meeting cum peace rally was held on Thursday in Ampati in Meghalaya’s South West Garo Hills district.
The rally was organized by the Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Western Zone, under the leadership of its president Megadeth M. Marak.
The event was also supported by various local NGOs, including A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM), A’chik Youth Welfare Organisation (AYWO), A’chik Dedicated Integrity Leaders (ADIL), Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP), Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE), Meghalaya Koch Students’ Union (MKSU), and Hajong Students’ Union (HSU).
The protesters urged authorities to take immediate action to bring justice to the victims of the gang rapes in Chenga Benga Mela and Garobadha.
The organizers and participants of the rally demanded the immediate arrest of all the accused involved in both cases, especially the mastermind behind the gang rape in Chenga Benga Mela, who is still evading capture.
The rally strongly condemned the act of rape and demanded that Garo Hills adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards such heinous crimes.
The rally urged the community to unite in support of the victims and demand immediate justice. The participants emphasized the importance of bringing the perpetrators to account for their heinous crimes.

The gathering also highlighted other issues, including the need for enforcement of the Meghalaya Residential Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) 2016, reforms in the District Selection Committee (DSC) Ampati in the District of SWGH, and stronger regulations under the Trading by Non-Tribals (TNT) Act.
