Shillong: H B Dan, former MLA of the Nartiang Constituency, passed away on Wednesday morning at his residence in Dulong in Meghalaya’s Jowai. He had been battling illness for several months.
Dan was a veteran politician with a long and distinguished career. H B Dan was elected as MLA for the Nartiang Constituency three times: in 1978, 1988, and 1998. He served as a Cabinet member in the Meghalaya government on multiple occasions.
He also held the position of Member of the District Council (MDC) and served as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) three times.

Born on June 1, 1942, Dan was a respected leader in the Nongjngi Presbyterian Church and was deeply involved in his community. He is survived by his wife, seven children, and 19 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on October 18, 2024, at the Presbyterian Church in Jowai.
