Ampati: The Meghalaya Education Department, under the guidance of South-West Garo Hills district Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak, held a review meeting on Thursday at Ampati to assess the performance of secondary schools in the district.
The meeting, chaired by Sub Divisional School Education Officer Emphul Ch. Marak, aimed to identify areas for improvement and enhance the overall performance of schools.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for urgent measures to address the district’s low Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) pass percentage, which currently stands at 28%.
During the discussion, teachers from various schools shared their experiences and challenges. Representatives from St. Claret Higher Secondary School, which achieved a 90% pass rate in the SSLC examination, highlighted the importance of parental involvement and teacher dedication.
Last year, 14 schools in the district had a zero pass rate in the SSLC examination.
Swella A Sangma, Headmistress of Boldamgre Deficit Secondary School, attributed her school’s 100% pass rate to regular parent-teacher association meetings and the dedication of the teaching staff.
The review meeting was also attended by Dr. C.W. R. Marak, Additional Deputy Commissioner, and Dr. Diganta Hajong, Block Development Officer.
