Shillong: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Meghalaya Police on Tuesday conducted a detailed reconstruction of the crime scene in Sohra, shedding new light on the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi.
The reconstruction took place at the Wei Sawdong parking lot, where Raja was fatally attacked, and involved the accused individuals, including Sonam Raghuvanshi.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Syiem, this exercise provided crucial insights into the sequence of events that culminated in the premeditated murder, allegedly stemming from a love triangle.
SP Syiem revealed that Raja sustained three severe blows during the assault, with the first, delivered by Vishal, proving fatal.
“Two sharp weapons were used, and the accused admitted to disposing of them after the crime,” he said.
Efforts by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are underway to recover the discarded weapons.
The SIT uncovered that the accused—Vishal, Raj, and Sonam—had scouted multiple secluded locations before selecting Wei Sawdong for their plan.
The crime scene reconstruction allowed investigators to visualize how the weapons were discarded and clarified the sequence of events leading to Raja’s death.
Postmortem findings confirmed that sharp weapon injuries to the head were the cause of death, with two of the wounds identified as fatal.
Sonam’s involvement in the case has drawn significant attention. Police allege that she not only instigated the attack but was also present during the murder.
“Sonam hinted at eliminating Raja and fled after the first blow. She later destroyed her phone to erase digital evidence,” SP Syiem stated.
The investigation suggests the crime was motivated by a love triangle, with Raja, an employee at Sonam’s father’s company, caught in a strained relationship marked by jealousy and tension.
Sonam reportedly admitted her role in the plan during questioning.

Raj, another accused, attempted to maintain contact with Raja’s family to deflect suspicion in the aftermath of the crime.
While the love triangle is the central focus, SP Syiem noted that other motives are also being investigated.
“We are delving deeper into the case to explore all possible angles,” he said.
The murder, which has unsettled the normally tranquil region, continues to unfold with chilling revelations, as authorities work to piece together the full extent of the conspiracy.
